Golden Avatar
This film is about Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu who lived in India during the sixteenth century. The Vedic scriptures predicted His advent and activities, declaring Him an 'avatar', an incarnation of the Supreme Lord Krishna. As foretold Sri Caitanya began a spiritual renaissance based on chanting the names of God, which later spread throughout the world.
Two of Sri Caitanya's intimate associates kept diaries of his pastimes. These were later compiled into His biography, Sri Caitanya-caritamrita, written in Bengali four hundred years ago by Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami.
In 1975, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), introduced this classic biography to the Western world in a seventeen volume series, with English translation and commentary. This presentation is based on that work.
