Home Articles End of Materialistc Civilisation

54 years ago in the Back to Godhead magazine, Srila Prabhupada wrote, "...the materialistic civilization will be destroyed by nuclear weapons after a lapse of 50 years." Well we're 4 years after that lapse and it looks like the pure devotee was giving us a fair warning.

Historically, both world wars occurred after financial/economic collapses. We just experienced a financial collapse and if other countrys' experiences with financial collapses leading to economic collapses are a clue, the US is on the brink of an economic collapse. (For people who are unfamiliar with what an economic collapse means, it means there is no food in the grocery store.). That is what happened with the Weimar Republic, the USSR, Cuba and Argentina. So the likelihood of an economic collapse in the USA is very high.

In addition, the Gulf "oil spill" is probably much, much worse than is being reported. Here is an excerpt from an article originating in Russia:

"A dire report circulating in the Kremlin today that was prepared for Prime Minister Putin by Anatoly Sagalevich of Russia's Shirshov Institute of Oceanology warns that the Gulf of Mexico sea floor has been fractured "beyond all repair" and our World should begin preparing for an ecological disaster "beyond comprehension" unless "extraordinary measures" are undertaken to stop the massive flow of oil into our Planet's eleventh largest body of water.

Most important to note about Sagalevich's warning is that he and his fellow scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences are the only human beings to have actually been to the Gulf of Mexico oil leak site after their being called to the disaster scene by British oil giant BP shortly after the April 22nd sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil platform.

BP's calling on Sagalevich after this catastrophe began is due to his being the holder of the World's record for the deepest freshwater dive and his expertise with Russia's two Deep Submergence Vehicles MIR 1 and MIR 2 which are able to take their crews to the depth of 6,000 meters (19,685 ft).

According to Sagalevich's report, the oil leaking into the Gulf of Mexico is not just coming from the 22 inch well bore site being shown on American television, but from at least 18 other sites on the "fractured seafloor" with the largest being nearly 11 kilometers (7 miles) from where the Deepwater Horizon sank and is spewing into these precious waters an estimated 2 million gallons of oil a day."

In the USSR, their economic collapse occurred shortly after the terrible Chernobyl event, and it is looking like the Gulf "spill" is the US's Chernobyl, only much, much worse. Already devotees in Mississippi are reporting crop damage due to toxic rains and there are scientists who speculate that the entire East Coast could become toxic due to similar "fallout". The economic and humanitarian consequences are almost unimaginable. When the infrastructure of the US starts to collapse and society is in chaos, the likelihood of a world war following is very high, if history teaches us anything. And this coming war will be nuclear.

I've researched what is actually happening and it doesn't jive with what the media is reporting. We don't have to wonder whether there will be a nuclear war because we were told by the pure devotee that it would happen. Fortunately he also told us the importance of living locally. If we live locally and depend on Krsna, then we don't have to worry about having undue discomforts to our material bodies. And if we live locally, it sets a good example for others and the lifestyle lends itself to being conscious of Krsna.

When this inevitable chaos leading to world war starts, there will be very limited options, so I encourage all devotees to make immediate plans to be able to relocate to a place where they can live locally. Srila Prabhupada also said that the Goddess of Fortune resides where grains are stored, so I recommend having at least one year's supply of food at your designated location. Satisfaction of the mind can be obtained only by taking the mind away from thoughts of sense enjoyment. The more we think of sense enjoyment, the more the mind becomes dissatisfied. In the present age we unnecessarily engage the mind in so many different ways for sense gratification, and so there is no possibility of the mind's becoming satisfied. The best course is to divert the mind to the Vedic literature, which is full of satisfying stories, as in the Puranas and the Mahabharata. One can take advantage of this knowledge and thus become purified. (Srila Prabhupada, Bhagavad Gita As It Is, 17.16 purport)
